ALANG SHIP BREAKING YARD.
In Indian Naval Hydrographic Chart 208 and 2054, one will find the name of a minor port – ALANG. This port is geographically located in the country of India, State of Gujarat, District of Bhavnagar.. This port of ALANG in Talaja Taluka of Bhavnagar Dist. was selected as the best port available amongst all the ports in Gujarat State and was decided to be developed as a SHIP BREAKING YARD in the last quarter of the year 1982.

The first ship m.v. Kota Tanjong was beached at Alang Ship Breaking Yard on 13th February, 1983. Since then ALANG has become the largest Ship-Breaking-Yard in the Country of India and second largest in Asia. It is 60 kilometers by road from Bhavnagar City.

Nearly 175 plots along 15 kms. Stretch of coastline at Alang, have been developed for ship breaking activity, which includes VLCC plots. At an average, two thousand ships are being demolished every year.
